I DON’T BEND OVER BACKWARDS ANYMORE

I can’t bend over backwards and catch my ankles like I used to.

I can’t do the splits like I used to.

I don’t wrap my shin behind my neck like I used to.

I don’t even try to do these things any more because I no longer believe that there is any health, use, or necessity to doing these things.

Quite the contrary; we need a healthy amount of stiffness for stability.

I still stretch every day, but it is all within a healthy range and with intention.

The intention:

In truth the amount of flexibility/mobility we need is just enough to be able to live well; to be able to comfortably get up and down from the floor as we move into old age, to be able to play and dance and climb and squat and lift and twist with a sense of ease and lightness.

The type of stretching we do in RUMMĀN is highly functional. It’s not about becoming more and more bendy, although that may be a fun side effect.

It’s about restructuring and hydrating the fascia. So that your body feels like a place that you truly want to live in.
